MatthewB-head-300highI offer a warm, reflective and confidential space to talk openly and provide the opportunity for healing and personal growth.  I recognise that for some people coming to see a counsellor is a courageous step and that’s why I place great value on a creating a respectful and collaborative relationship between the therapist and client.

As an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, I take an holistic and evidenced-based approach to counselling; embracing cognitive and behavioural techniques, balanced with narrative and systemic frameworks.  I have over 14 years of counselling experience working with children, their families, young people and adults, across the fields of school education, alcohol and other drugs, mental health, employee assistance and child safety.

I am particularly interested in helping children with school related issues, family relationships including the adjustment to parenthood, gentle parenting and men’s health. I also offer professional supervision to education staff and allied health clinicians.

Please see our services page for more information about what I can offer.

I have a Degree in Addictions and a Master’s Degree in Social Work and have been working therapeutically with people for over 20 years both in Australia and the in UK. I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and believe that healthy relationships both within ourselves and with others is the basis for our emotional wellbeing.

I am trained in many therapeutic techniques including Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Social Behaviour and Network Therapy. I incorporate evidence based practices into a holistic and strengths based framework to collaborate with individuals, couples and families to develop a treatment plan that meets their unique needs and circumstances.

I have experience working with children and families, young people, couples, addictions, eating disorders, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, PTSD, self-harm and people with a high degree of psychological distress. I also offer clinical supervision to professionals working in Mental Health and Addiction.

I know that life is not always without it’s challenges. Sometimes we can face these challenges alone but at other times we may need some help. Asking for help can often be the hardest step we take on our journey of change and growth but it is also usually the most advantageous because my experience tells me together we are stronger. During our counselling relationship we will create a safe space where dignity and respect is the foundation for future healing and wellbeing.
